Intermediate Keelboat Sailing Class

The Intermediate Keelboat sailing class is a co-ed, hands-on course taught in Santa Cruz 27' sloops with a limit of 15 students. The SC 27 is a locally built ultralight displacement keelboat known for its sporty performance as well as its surprising user-friendliness. It is offered for UCSC students as an eight-week physical education course during the Fall, Winter and Spring academic quarters. Satisfactory completion meets prerequisite for Advanced Keelboat sailing classes and enables students to achieve the keel boat "level one" skill classification for the UCSC Boating Club. This course is also offered to the public every summer through the UCSC Boating Center Summer Boating Program.

Int. Keelboat

Enroll online, or show up at the first class meeting at the entrance to the East Field House on Campus (not at the harbor). Pre-enrolled students must be at the first class meeting in order to retain their spot. Students have priority over the public during Fall, Winter and Spring, however non-students who hold a current OPERS wellness card may enroll in classes that are not full at the first meeting on campus. Winter quarter is the best bet for non-students during the academic year as enrollments are usually lower.

Prerequisite: Intermediate Dinghy. Swimming ability is required.

Instructor: Rusty Kingon

Fall/Winter/Spring Class Fee: $60.00
