Dear OPERS Community,
Last week I was able to engage with many of you regarding how the election results are impacting many of us. Our conversations were open, honest, caring and respectful. I am so very proud to be part of such a loving community.
Politics aside, many in our community are feeling targeted and fearful. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are feeling extremely vulnerable due to messages of hate and intolerance.
OPERS has been, and will continue to be, a safe place for everyone! No matter what you look like, who you love, whatever your origins, or however you worship, you are welcome at OPERS!
I invite the entire OPERS community to stand in solidarity against hate and intolerance.
I invite you to pick up a safety pin at one of our customer service counters to wear or display.
This simple gesture lets our community know you are a safe person and OPERS is a safe space.
The words and actions of some are in direct conflict with OPERS values, UCSC Principles of Community, and in violation of the UC Hate/Bias Incident Policy.
Now more than ever.... if you see something, say something, do something!
Be kind to each other.
